The Drum Marathon. Raye Du-Val.

PICTURE GALLERY. The passage of time, over 50 years, accounts for the poor quality of some of these pictures. If you have any pictures, photographs or cuttings from Raye's career please contact Raye or webmaster.

The photographs on this page were taken during the drum marathon in October 1959.

With Raye in the picture is Johnny MacKay who was at Raye's side throughout the marathon.

The photo on the left shows Raye not long after commencing the drum marathon and during the marathon Raye was visited and supported by many celebrities from the music and entertainment industry.

In this photo we see Peter ( Ginger ) Baker with Raye.

Ginger Baker was rock's first superstar drummer and the most influential percussionist of the 1960s.   Baker made his name entirely on his playing, initially as showcased in Cream, but far transcending even that trio's relatively brief existence. Though he only cut top-selling records for a period of about three years at the end of the 1960s, virtually every drummer of every heavy metal band that has followed since that time has sought to emulate some aspect of Baker's playing.
